I know that there are many people out there that have already simplified their life, and they will say that it was an external that made them downshift; example less work hours, more time with family. But when you speak further with them they will let you know that they wanted to downshift for a deeper personal meaning, they wanted to live a fulfilling and enjoyable life.Where did they deicide this? In their minds and hearts.Simplicity is an inward to outward process; you can not have one without the other, because it won't last. You need to make the outside world a new habit and a new way of living, where does this form? In your thoughts, and beliefs.
How would you begin downshifting?.I believe you begin like anything, by doing your research on the topic. This will give you a clear picture of what to expect from simplicity. I urge you as well to speak with people that have downshifted; this gives you real advice, straight from the primary source. And then?.
And then I believe you should know exactly what you want from downshifting. You need to have a clear picture of how far you want to downshift. Do you just want a few less hours at work, or do you want to leave the job and move to a job where you have no responsibilities therefore less stress. The first step here is to decide "What do you want?" The mind does not see in words, it sees in pictures.
The best way to get clear on what you want is to get some pictures, maybe a few travel brochures, or real estate catalogues. Cut out everything that makes your heart sing with joy and passion and paste it onto a large board. This is a wonderful visual for you to hang up in your home or office, somewhere you can see everyday. This gives you a clear knowing of what you want so you can take you're downshifting in slow, gradual steps.
Allowing you to simplify with ease and enjoyment.Good luck and happy downshifting.
